26th Oct: Has Russia Changed
Chris Beckett, has travelled worldwide. He will discuss how it is that changes have taken place in Russia and yet it had remianed the same. 30th Nov: Heroes and Gods John Smith, a retired Cambridge academic and author of a recent Penguin Classic translation of The Mahabharata, will present Indian literature covering ancient and modern epics. 25th Jan: A.G.M. followed by The Hidden Persuaders Doors open and first call at 15.00, followed by lecture at 16.30 We shall be informed and entertained by Scott Creasey who will show us how advertising techniques persuade us to part with our money and sometimes our brains! 22nd Feb: Iran: Its History and Art A presentation by Sallie Rejali on the history and art of Iran will have the main emphasis on the Safavid Dynasty 1502-1736. 29th Mar: Living in the Dreamtime Ian Phillips will discuss the exploration of Australia and the Aboriginal Experience: the history and images of Australia rarely seen by the tourist. 26th Apr: Illustrated Mediæval Manuscripts Liz Cochrane will discuss and delight us with this presentation as she answers such questions as: "How were these costly illustrations financed?", "What was their purpose?", "Why was the mediæval church so interested in the Zodiac?" |
